Fischbach Gallery was a pioneering New York contemporary art venue, founded by Marilyn Fischbach in 1960 and directed during its legendary 1960s–1970s run by Aladar Marburger. The gallery played a vital historical role in defining post-war American art history, serving as the launching pad for Post-Minimalism—most famously hosting Lucy Lippard’s seminal 1966 exhibition Eccentric Abstraction—while simultaneously championing a major revival of contemporary realist and landscape painting. Throughout the 1970s, Fischbach showcased an influential, intergenerational roster of artists that bridged structural innovation with new painterly approaches, including process art by Eva Hesse, and groundbreaking realism and landscape paintings by Alex Katz, Alice Neel, Neil Welliver, and Jane Freilicher.
