Brooke Alexander Gallery was a foundational New York art venue and premier print publisher, founded in 1968 by Brooke and Carolyn Alexander on Manhattan's East Side before establishing its prominent 57th Street gallery space in 1975. The gallery played a vital, trailblazing role in post-war graphic arts, transforming printmaking from a reproductive medium into a primary vehicle for avant-garde experimentation by publishing over 1,500 landmark editions and hosting seminal exhibitions such as 1973's Hand Colored Prints. Throughout the 1970s, Brooke Alexander represented a dynamic cross-section of Minimalist, Conceptual, and Post-Minimalist pioneers, publishing and exhibiting works by titans like Josef Albers, Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Alex Katz, Richard Tuttle, and Ed Ruscha.
